Dentaltrak is a startup company that offers a software system to help dentists programmatically manage their dental medical device ordering process. The idea was born from Brent Smart, a dental technician with 20 years of experience who works with top dental surgeons and dentists throughout Australia.
Brent was tired of the manual and tedious process of ordering dental medical devices, which involved taking impressions, selecting materials, designing the dental medical device, sending the order to the lab, tracking the progress, and fitting the dental medical device to the patient. He felt that this process was inefficient, costly, and prone to errors.
The idea for Dentaltrak was born out of the frustration of Brent Smart in regard to manual ordering and less organised methods of communication between dentists and labs. Brent has over 20 years of experience and works with top dental surgeons and dentists throughout Australia. Brent was tired of the manual and tedious process involved taking and sending the order to the lab and which may include multiple emails or correspondence, tracking the progress prior to fitting the device to the patient. He felt that this process was inefficient costly and prone to errors both for the dentist and dental technician. He realised that there was a gap in the market for a software system that could cater to the specific needs of dentists and dental technicians. He decided to create his own software system, and enlisted the help of his brother Clint Smart, who had a background in occupational health and safety, environment, quality management and compliance. Together, they founded Dentaltrak, a start up company that aims to revolutionise the workflow and quality management of dental medical devices. They developed a software system that allows dentists and dental technicians to create, send, and track orders, using a user-friendly interface that guides them through the workflow and quality management process.
In 2022 the Australian Government changed the law whereby dentures and other work performed by dental technicians which was previously unregulated became a regulated industry of the Therapeutic Goods Act (TGA Act). Between 2022 and 2024 a transition period was created to given dental labs time to adjust to the new regulation and from November 2024 a quality management system is required to be maintained for the manufacture of dental medical devices. Brent decided to look for a software solution that could automate and simplify the dental medical device manufacturing process using the latest technology and best practices. He searched online and found a few options, but none of them met his needs or expectations for workflow and quality management. The software system enables dentists to communicate with their dental labs digitally and to request changes and send files if needed. The software system gives both dental technicians and dentists full control and visibility over their device workflow and quality management. Dentaltrak launched its software system in 2024 and received positive feedback from its early adopters. The software system helped dentists save time and money, while improving data and information flow. Dentaltrak is now a successful and innovative startup company that helps dentists to programmatically manage their denture ordering process.
